Damaged or infected pulp at the center of a tooth can cause intense swelling and excruciating pain. Without treatment other complications may persist including nerve damage or the loss of an affected tooth. A root canal is a common dental procedure used to remove infected pulp in order to stop pain and other associated issues.

Healthy pulp keeps blood circulating to a tooth. In fact, pulp is made up of blood vessels and nerves, as well as connective tissue. Keeping pulp healthy is one of the hallmarks of good dental care. When it becomes diseased or damaged, immediate treatment is needed to stop infection from spreading and in order to save the tooth before it dies or before it must be extracted. If you are experiencing a sudden and immense toothache, call our office right away so that we can determine its cause and whether a root canal is needed.
